When Grief Changes Your World, You are Forced to Change.
After experiencing the death of my beloved rabbits Nadir and Fiver, I was so devastated and traumatized that I began to lose my hair and had trouble coping with daily life.
Just two years later, I lost another rabbit, my son and twin soul Ansel (whom we affectionately called Mouse), in a traumatic and unexpected death that stopped my life as I then knew it and started me on a different path.
Few people took my losses seriously because those I lost were animals, not humans. It was difficult to find people who really understood what it was like to lose a beloved and talk about it openly.
My husband and I sought the support of a grief counselor and my regular therapist immediately after Mouse’s transition. The grief counselor, a licensed psychologist, was very expensive ($450/hour expensive) but helpful, while my regular therapist (who was covered under my insurance) was not.
After our package of sessions with the grief counselor ended and I couldn’t rely on my regular therapist anymore, I sought the help of a grief coach.
Grief and loss continue to transform me and my life in ways I never imagined.
The coach, who had lost both a human child and an animal companion, told me there was no difference between losing a human child and an animal.
She sat with me on park benches in the woods, coffee shops, and Zoom calls while I cried. She comforted me when no one else did. She saw me and my pain in what was truly the lowest point of my life.
I will never forget the kindness, compassion, and presence of my grief coach while I was mortally wounded and had so few people to support me. I now help others on their personal grief journeys.
In Case You Wanted to Know
My husband and I have 10 (yes, 10) rescued animals that we devote our lives to.
I have over 20 tattoos. The smallest ones are half an inch while my largest is 26 inches long.
Rollerskating, running, and reading are hobbies of mine outside of being a mom.
I also work as a professional freelance writer through my website The Green Writing Desk.
You are the expert of your life and your experiences.
Grief is an overwhelming experience with difficult emotions, but you don't have to navigate this rocky terrain alone.
Let’s talk about where you’re at, what you’re struggling with, and where you want to be. I’m listening.
